Blood orange (scientific name: Citrus sinensis' blood orange ') is a cultivar plant of sweet orange under citrus of Rutaceae. Trees with few or nearly no thorns on their branches. The leaves are usually slightly smaller than the pomelo leaves, the wing leaves are narrow and long, the leaves are ovate or oval oval, rarely lanceolate, the flowers are white, rarely with light purplish red on the back, the Raceme has a few flowers, the fruit is round, oblate or oval, orange red, the peel is difficult or slightly easy to peel, the color of the mesocarp is blood red or dark purplish red, but the immature fruit is not colored, the core is solid or semi full, the pulp is orange red or purplish red when mature, sweet or slightly sour.
Blood oranges are mainly produced in countries along the Mediterranean coast in northern Africa and southern Europe. There is a large amount of cultivation in various parts of China. The main production areas in China are Sichuan and Jiangxi. Blood oranges prefer warmth, light, and humidity, but are not resistant to flooding.
