Phellodendron chinensis is plate-like or shallow-grooved, with different lengths and widths, and a thickness of 3~6mm. The outer surface is yellowish-brown or yellowish-brown, flat or with longitudinal grooves, and some lenticels and residual gray-brown rough skin can be seen. Phellodendron extract refers to an object extracted from the dried bark of the Rutaceae plant, Phellodendron or Phellodendron.The active ingredient of Phellodendron Bark extract is Berberine Hydrochloride.
This herb was first found in "Shen Nong's Herbal Classic", in which it was listed as the highest grade and classified into the group of heat-clearing and damp-drying drug. The best medicinal quality usually comes from those phellodendron that is about 10 year old. Unfortunately the tree will die soon after it is peeled. As a result, it is also one of rare and valuable Chinese herbs.
