Oseltamivir is an drug,a neuramini-dase inhibi-tor used in the treatment and prophylaxis of both influenza A and influenza B.Oseltamivir is a prodrug (usually administered as phosphate),Oseltamivir phosphate is hydrolysed hepatically to the active metabolite, the free carboxylate of oseltamivir (GS4071).Like zanamivir,oseltamivir acts as a transition-state analogue inhibitor of influenza neuraminidase.

Oseltamivir phosphate is an ethyl ester prodrug requiring ester hydrolysis for conversion to the active form, oseltamivir
carboxylate. The proposed mechanism of action of oseltamivir is inhibition of influenza virus neuraminidase with the possibility of alteration of virus particle aggregation and release.

Function

The active ingredient Is a potent and unique neuraminidase inhibitor that acts on all aspects of influenza virus infection and prevents the replication of all clinically relevant strains of influenza A or B viruses.
In vitro in very low nanomolar concentrations that have inhibitory effect. The active metabolite was observed to inhibit the
growth of influenza virus in vitro and it was also observed in vivo to inhibit the replication and pathogenicity of influenza
virus.Oseltamivide reduces the spread of influenza A or B viruses by inhibiting the release of the virus from the infected cells.

Application

Oseltamivir phosphate is an anti-influenza virus drug with the trade name Tamiflu. It is a white to yellowish-white powder in appearance and can be classified as a selective inhibitor of influenza A (type A) and B (type B) virus neuraminidase, which prevents the release and spread of the virus from infected cells by inhibiting the virus' neuraminidase, thereby achieving control of influenza symptoms. It is used clinically for the treatment of influenza A and B in adults and children aged 1 year and older, and for the prevention of influenza A and B in adults and adolescents aged 13 years and older.
